ST. BONIFACE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES

JANUARY 26, 2010

The meeting was opened at 7:00 p.m.  For Faith Formation, Father Joe read the second reading for Sunday, January 30, St. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians.  In his letter, St. Paul talks about the gifts of the Holy Spirit, especially faith, hope and love.  The greatest of the gifts is love and we should strive for love in all that we do.

Roll call was taken.  Members Present:  Father Joe, Tim Banish, Lisa Biedenbach, Ted Boliske, Dave Bracken, Kathie Fahey, Bob Frerick, Jeanne Guenthner, Beth Kessler, Jim Kuhn, Tom LeSaint, Scott Rice, Rick Salerno, Ruthann Sammarco, Rosemary Welz.  Carol Roosa was also present.

The minutes of the November 23 meeting were approved as published.

Old Business:

Young Adult Ministry  --  Carol Roosa reported that Jenni Lindgren and Chris Noel are working on a Facebook page for the Young Adult Ministry.  Information will also be posted on the Current Events page of the parish website.  Jenni is also trying to do something with the youths attending St. Boniface School.  Ten students responded to the survey she sent out.  Jenni hopes to have some sort of a social activity for the youths in the spring—perhaps an open gym on a Wednesday or Thursday night.

Parish School  --

  • There are currently approximately 173 students enrolled in St. Boniface School.
  • Sister Ann presented a proposal to the School Board that there be two school administrators for the 2010-2011 school year.  Sister Ann would serve in a role similar to that of president while the second administrator would assume the principal duties.  The Board will begin the search for the second administrator in-house since three current staff members have principal certification.
  • Father Joe and Sister Ann are serving on a committee to develop a strategic plan for C.I.S.E.
  • The school boiler is leaking.  The school is currently running on half of the boiler.  C.I.S.E. will pay for 2/3 of the replacement cost and an anonymous donor will cover the balance.
  • Catholic Schools Week is January 31-February 6.  A schedule of school activities will be included in the bulletin.

For the Good of the Parish

Father Joe and Council members reported on the following:

Liturgy:

·      All the Christmas liturgies went well.  Father was especially pleased with the 4:00 p.m. Mass on Christmas Eve.

·      Father Joe will be attending the 100th anniversary of Annunciation Parish on February 7.

·      The Four Chaplains Mass will be Sunday, February 14, at 12:00 noon.  Father Peter St. George will be the presider.

·      Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 17.

Financial:

·      Father Joe reported that as of now, due to the increase in the Sunday collections, we are approximately $14,000 ahead.  This does not include the church windows which were paid for out of savings.  Father is gratified by the response to his request for increased financial help.

·      On February 3, Carol Roosa, Jeanne Guenthner and Rick Salerno will attend a deanery meeting on stewardship.

·      Father has received several compliments on the church windows.

·      Carol is working with Al Murnan to improve the restroom in the rear of church

·      The new video camera will be ready for use at the organ concert on February 21.

·      A financial report for the Homecoming Festival was distributed.  The net profit was $6,978.57.

Pastoral:

·      Father hopes to have a parish census in the near future.  It was suggested that the census form could be posted on the parish website.

·      The Health and Wellness Ministry conducted 286 blood pressure screenings during 2009.  Thirty of these were serious enough that the persons were referred to a doctor.  The Health and Wellness Ministry made an additional 587 contacts during 2009.

·      The spiritual book club discussed The Story of the Church by Alfred McBride at their last meeting.  On March 7 the club will discuss The Road to Cana by Anne Rice.

·      Rick Salerno is working on auditing the Archdiocese books for last year.  The Archdiocesan Pastoral Council will meet in February.

·      Carol Roosa reported people have been panhandling in the parking lot and also in church.  Anyone who is approached should not give the person any money and should ask them to leave the premises.

New Business:

Nominating Committee  --  Tom LeSaint, Tim Banish and Rick Salerno volunteered to serve on the Parish Pastoral Council nominating committee.  There are five positions to be filled.  Two of the outgoing members are eligible to run for a second term.  The election will be the third weekend in May.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 23.  The meeting was closed at 8:00 p.m. with prayer by Father Joe.

                                                                        Respectfully submitted,
